Fifteen engaged faculty gathered December 7th to discuss how to prepare students for responsible community engagement. Two experienced speakers (see below) provided an overview of resources to use in the classroom to explore issues connected to culture, socio-economic status, and sustainable partnerships, among other pieces of the puzzle. There were presentations of successful models for preparing students to engage responsibly in the community and ideas for further workshops.
Two presenters shared their experiences:
Meredith Casper, Asst Director for Training and Student Development, DukeEngage
Sarah Russell, Director of Academic Engagement, Global and Civic Opportunities
We also examined Dive into Duke Orientation materials as a further model.
