Major in Environmental Science; Minor in Inequality Studies

Ariel is an environmental science major and inequality studies minor who is passionate about environmental justice issues impacting coastal communities and implementing equitable solutions. She serves as co-director of Duke's Environmental Justice Campus Committee and EJ Lead for the Duke Undergraduate Environmental Union. Her undergraduate thesis is on the cultural traditions surrounding subsistence fishing on the coast of North Carolina. She is a Rachel Carson Scholar, a Duke University program focused on marine science research, as well as an oral historian. In her free time, Ariel enjoys hiking and knitting.

Ariel is currently working as the SLA for the Design Climate I course. This course allows graduate students (and high-level undergraduates) to develop capabilities in design thinking and sustainable product development. These skills will be developed by developing novel, industry-relevant products, services, or new ventures that address the climate challenge. In my role, I help students center the experience of community members impacted by the industry of their product.
