Kimmie Garner, MSW
Assistant Director, Duke Service-Learning
Kimmie supports Duke Service-Learning by assisting the Director with strategic planning, representing the program to the community, facilitating the application of the service-learning designation in the registration system, supervising a cohort of Service-Learning Graduate Assistants, and managing the program's communications, finances, and events. Kimmie honed a foundation in reciprocal partnerships among faculty, students, and communities as a student participant and organizer in UNC’s APPLES Service-Learning Program, graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill in 2011 with majors in Global Studies and Women’s Studies and a minor in Social and Economic Justice, received her Master’s in Social Work from the University of Montana, and served in hospital and clinic environments in Montana, New Mexico and Boone, NC as a bilingual perinatal social worker, lactation counselor, and maternal and child health grant coordinator. Kimmie enjoys connecting faculty, students, and community stakeholders in ethical, intentional, and lasting collaborations in Durham.
