Course Awards
Thanks to the continued support of Trinity College, Duke Service-Learning is able to offer small course grants to support service-learning and community-engaged teaching. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, with priority given to those submitted ahead of each semester’s start.
Priority Timeline
To ensure timely processing, we recommend submitting course funding requests at least 3–4 weeks before the start of the semester in which the course will be taught.
Applications submitted after that point will still be considered, but may be subject to funding availability.
For example:
- For Spring courses, aim to submit by mid-December
- For Fall courses, aim to submit by early August
Transportation Policy
Please note that Duke Service-Learning can only fund transportation through our Uber for Business account or contracted bus services.
Do not use this form for other transportation expenses.
Instead, contact Kathy Sikes at Kathy.Sikes@duke.edu for help with transportation arrangements.
New Courses
If you are requesting funding for a new or first-time service-learning or community-engaged course, you must first apply for the SLCE label.
Funding requests of up to $1,000 will be considered for new courses.
Ongoing Courses
Courses that have previously received SLCE funding will be considered ongoing.
Funding requests of up to $500 will be considered for ongoing courses.
Requirements for Funded Courses
If your course receives funding, we ask that you:
- Complete a brief end-of-semester survey
- Acknowledge Duke Service-Learning in any events, publications, or promotional materials related to the course
