Duke Service-Learning will follow university guidelines for off-campus activities

All service-learning and community-based experiences will be virtual/remote in Spring 2021. Our guidelines are as follows:

  1. We will follow university guidelines for off-campus activities.
    • No in-person events or activities sponsored by Duke will be permitted to take place off-campus, both in Durham and elsewhere in or outside the U.S.
    • Faculty should consult the Duke Minors Policy for details about the process to get approval for virtual interactions with minors.
  2. We will support faculty interest in service-learning and community-engaged (SLCE) courses, but will only endorse virtual opportunities during the Spring 2021 semester.
    • We support social justice-oriented collaborations and partnerships.
    • We encourage faculty to embed trauma-informed teaching approaches that foster social emotional learning into their courses this Spring.
  3. We can provide Spring funding towards SLCE courses, but will not be providing funds for transportation that supports face-to-face engagement.
  4. Community partners can email us at servicelearning@duke.edu or contact the Duke Office of Durham & Community Affairs with questions or needs that emerge.
