Dr. Joan Clifford is a long-standing member of the Duke Service-Learning team. As Faculty Consultant and Director of the Community-Based Languages Initiative, she has expanded the networks of partnerships in our communities. She regularly teaches service-learning courses that connect Spanish language students to organizations that address food insecurity and education. She brings invaluable experience, expertise, and leadership to her new role as Faculty Director.
"For 16 years Professor David Malone, PhD has used his voice as Faculty Director for Duke Service-Learning to deepen the work of generations of Duke students dedicated to community engagement. With immense gratitude, I would like to thank Prof. Malone for his years of leadership in maintaining anti-racism, equity, and co-creation as core components to the Duke Service-Learning vision. I invite all of us to consider how to honor the retirement of Prof. Malone from Duke Service-Learning by focusing on an action. Look for ways to engage with our communities—details for our community service day with the Iglesia Emanuel to assist with their program fighting food insecurity will be forthcoming! Please check our calendar for programming that will support your interest in service-learning and community engagement!"
